Extendingtables.com was established with one priority, to design and make the finest hand-made extending dining table available in the world. It is a unique business developed for the ever increasing client demand for bespoke tables that are extendable and of a style, size and quality currently unseen and unavailable elsewhere.
The Designer
Chris Berry started making tables at the age of 14, when he discovered some old oak floorboards in his grandfather's attic in Salisbury and turned them into a table which his parents still use today.
Since then he has been designing and making furniture for over 30 years, with a particular passion for extendable tables due to their combination of sleek fine lines and incredibly detailed engineering, ensuring they have the best extension mechanisms available.
All his designs are hand-drawn and prototypes produced. This is followed by technical drawings with precise measurements and specifications to create the exact style and design required, whilst incorporating perfect proportions for each client's room size. A truly bespoke experience!
The process
Our extending dining table is hand-drawn to each client's requirements, ensuring that every aspect of the design, size and extendability is correct. We treat each table individually as a handmade bespoke piece. We only use the finest timbers of solid wood sourced from well managed sustainable plantations throughout Europe and USA.
The finest grades of wood are selected and then kiln-dried to our specifications, to provide the best quality timbers for us to work with.
We are also proud partners of the World Land Trust buying areas of endangered rainforests, monthly, through their scheme.
Our tables can be made from solid oak, classic or wild walnut, cherry and maple, or a mixture of these fine timbers. We specialise in pale European oak and rich warm walnut:
Pale oak - we select the palest and most subtle grains, as opposed to lower grades which give great fluctuation in colour and a more "rustic" appearance. This oak allows your dining table to be finished in our palest or our warmest polishes.
Classic walnut - traditional uniformly dark chocolate timber selected for its rich formal tones.
Wild walnut - a selection of both the paler sapwood and the darker, more mature wood is used as a mix in your table, giving a brighter more complex colour and tone.
Polish & Finishes
We always pay meticulous attention to detail and are proud of our polishes, which have been specially blended in-house, to give us an unrivalled superior finish and wearability. We have carefully developed them over many years bringing you the best finish available for your table.
Our highly skilled polishers painstakingly build up the layers of polish day by day, by hand, ensuring the best final quality, and giving you a table that not only looks stunning on delivery but also for years to come. Every client is provided with their own bottle of polish and repair kit and our personal delivery service includes a simple demonstration of how to apply it and to reproduce your table's "delivery day" appearance or repair it in case of any accidents.
